1
The New Testament Church
  • The Origin of the Church

2
Importance of When the Church Began
  • Matter of identityto distinguish it from the Old
Testament agencies and also from religious
    institutions of modern human origin.
  • To identify its lawsand to see when the law
governing the Church of God went into effect.

3
Church Foreshadowed in the Old Testament
  • The church was NOT in existence in the Old
    Testament days.
  • Old Testament worthies desired to see its era.
  • Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and
searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace
that would come to you, searching what, or what
manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in
them was indicating when He testified beforehand
the sufferings of Christ and the glories that
would follow. To them it was revealed that, not
to themselves, but to us they were ministering
the things which now have been reported to you
through those who have preached the gospel to you
by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven--things which
angels desire to look into. 1 Peter
    110-12

4
Foreshadowed in Old Testament
  • But Christ came as High Priest of the good
things to come, with the greater and more perfect
tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of
    this creation. Hebrews 911
  • Therefore it was necessary that the copies of
the things in the heavens should be purified with
these, but the heavenly things themselves with
better sacrifices than these. Hebrews 923

Beginning of the Church, Kingdom, Subject of
Prophecy
  • Now it shall come to pass in the latter days
That the mountain of the LORD'S house Shall be
established on the top of the mountains, And
shall be exalted above the hills And all nations
shall flow to it. Many people shall come and say,
"Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the
LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob He will
teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His
paths." For out of Zion shall go forth the law,
And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. Isaiah
    22,3

Beginning of the Church, Kingdom, Subject of
Prophecy
  • New Testament age is last days.
  • Has in these last days spoken to us by His Son,
whom He has appointed heir of all things, through
whom also He made the worlds. Hebrews 12
  • But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel
And it shall come to pass in the last days, says
    GodActs 216,17

8
Daniel Gives Gods Interpretation
  • Four world kingdoms
  • Babylonhead of Gold
  • Medes/Persiansbreast and arms of silver
  • Greecebelly and thighs of bronze
  • Romanlegs of iron and partly of clay

9
Daniel Gives Gods Interpretation
  • A stone cut, without hands, would crush all other
    kingdoms
  • Stone grew into a large mountain
  • This kingdom would come in the days of Romans
kings (4th empire) and NEVER be destroyed!

10
Key Passage
  • And in the days of these kings the God of heaven
will set up a kingdom which shall never be
destroyed and the kingdom shall not be left to
other people it shall break in pieces and
consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand
forever. Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was
cut out of the mountain without hands, and that
it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the
clay, the silver, and the gold-the great God has
made known to the king what will come to pass
after this. The dream is certain, and its
    interpretation is sure. (Dan.244,45)
