• Orientation Friday before school starts.
• Homeroom Several days during first week to
  review aspects of high school.

  week of school in homeroom.

  teacher websites (optional)
• Lunch one lunch time, many menu options, Jrs
  and Srs may go off campus with grades and parent
  approval.

Articulation Process

• Guidance Department will meet with students at
  most feeder middle schools to
• discuss options and process as well as distribute
  Course Request Forms. Private
• and home school students must complete
  registration process with the registrar.
• Encourage balance of challenging academics,
  courses of interest and extra
• curricular involvement. Students should get
  involved on our campus!
• Credits are earned by passing a semester of a
  course.
• Students will have an official record, called a
  transcript, with unweighted and
• weighted grade point average (GPA) after the
  completion of one semester of a high
• school coursework. High school transcript is
  cumulative for credits and GPA.
• Unweighted GPA is based on all courses awarded
  the standard grading of
• A 4.0 B 3.0 C 2.0 D 1.0
• Weighted GPA is based on
• Honors and honors gifted courses awarded an
  extra .5 for a semester grade of a C or better.

Graduation Requirements

• A four-year, minimum of 24-credits standard
  program, or
• ACCEL 18 credit program
• Standard 24 Credit Graduation Requirements
• English 4 credits
• Math 4 credits (to include Algebra I, and
  Geometry )
• Science 3 credits (to include Biology )
• Social Studies 3 credits ( World History,
  United States History, Economics and United
  States Government)
• Health Opportunities in Physical Education (HOPE)
  1 credit
• Fine Art or DOE Approved Practical Art 1 credit
  
• Electives as needed for a total of 24 credits
  (8 credits)
• Earn a 2.0 cumulative unweighted GPA
• Pass FCAT Reading 2.0 and End Of Course Exams
  (EOC) for credit in Algebra I must take EOC for
  Geometry, Biology, and US History.
• Complete at least one course for graduation via
  online learning.
• Scholar and Merit Designation information is
  available on the Florida Dept. of education
  website

Online Course for Graduation

• Options for completing the online course
  requirement for graduation
• Course can be a semester or yearlong course.
• Course can be taken in middle school as long as
  it is a high school credit course.
• Course may be taken via Leon County Virtual
  School (LCVS) or Florida Virtual School (FLVS).
• Course may be a credit-recovery as long as the
  student earns high school credit through online
  learning.
• NOTE Drivers Education online course may not
  satisfy this requirement.
•  
• LCVS No cost to student. Program run by Leon
  County Schools as a year-round program.
  Students can register anytime.
• Review http//www.leongoesvirtual.net/ for
  details.
•  
• FLVS - No cost to student. Statewide,
  year-round program. Students can register at any
  time of the year with no deadlines. It may take
  a long time to be assigned a teacher in the
  summer. Review www.flvs.net for details.
• Students must request approvals from their
  guidance counselor for online courses.

Three Strands for 9thGrade Students

• 9th grade students typically enroll in four
  required courses
• English I (general, honors, honors/gifted)
• Math
• Science
• Health Opportunities in Physical Education (HOPE)
• The traditional track allows students to take
  World History in 10th grade.
• The Pre-AP program allows for acceleration in the
  social studies area. Students who participate in
  Pre-AP enroll in World History Honors a year
  early to allow them the opportunity to begin
  taking Advanced Placement coursework in 10th
  grade.
• The AP Accel program allows for acceleration in
  the social studies. Students who participate in
  AP Accel being taking Advanced Placement
  coursework in 9th grade. Those students enroll
  in Advanced Placement World History or Advanced
  Placement Human Geography. In addition, with
  prerequisites, have the option to enroll in AP
  Biology

• March 11 Students return completed registration
  forms to their middle school.
• May Course verification forms mailed home.
• August Freshman Orientation at Chiles HS on
  the Friday prior to start of school.
• For Private and Homeschool students
  Pre-registration information is available on our
  website under Prospective Students.

Florida Bright Futures Scholarships

• Academic Scholars Award - Pro-rated per hour
  tuition coverage at a Florida post secondary
  institution.
• Requirements 3.5 weighted GPA (16 required
  academic credits), 1290 SAT or 29 ACT and 100
  hours of community service. (Forms and Guidelines
  available on Chiles website Guidance link)
• Florida Medallion Scholars Award - Pro-rated per
  hour tuition coverage at a Florida post secondary
  institution.
• Requirements 3.0 weighted GPA (16 required
  academic credits) and 1170 SAT or 26 ACT and 75
  hours of community service. (Forms and Guidelines
  available on Chiles website Guidance link)
• 16 required academic credits include
• 4 English
• 4 Math (Algebra I level and higher)
• 3 Science
• 3 Social Science
• 2 Foreign Language (in the same language)
• The SAT and ACT writing subtests will not be
  used for determining Bright Futures eligibility.
   
• Statewide Scholarship Weighting awards .25 per
  semester for honors, AP and DE
• courses with a C or higher. Advanced
  foreign language is not honors for BF.

Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship

• Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars Award -
  Pro-rated per hour tuition coverage for a
  vocational/technical program at a FL post
  secondary institution.
• Requirements 3.0 weighted GPA (16 required
  credits for graduation), 3.5 GPA in a 3 credit
  vocational program, 30 hours of community
  service, (Forms and Guidelines available on
  Chiles website Guidance link) and a passing
  score on a college placement test (SAT 440 verbal
  math, ACT 18 Reading, 17 English, 19 Math or
  CPT 83 Reading Sentence Skills, 72 Algebra)
