Sound it out
  • Before the Read
  • Look at the pictures before reading the story.
  • When your child is stuck, say
  • Look at the picture.
  • What would make sense? (meaning)
  • Does that sound right? (grammar)
  • Does that look right? (Do the letters match
  • the word?)
  • Read it again and get your mouth ready for the
  • first sound.
  • Look for a chunk you know? (groups of letters)
  • Try something, and keep reading for more
  • information.
