- Launch of regional movement on 23rd September
2009 - Declaration of war on the rising tide of
obesity - Aim was to galvanise support from everyone in the
region including grass roots organisations,
employers and third sector for an East Midlands
Platform - Link made with the EU Platform need for
exchanging policy ideas and best practice
nationally, regionally and at local levels

and Health
- Set up in 2005
- Forum for actors at an EU level who can commit
their membership to engage in concrete actions
designed to contain or reverse rising trends in
obesity - 33 member organisations that have made over 200
commitments to date in a variety of areas such as
food reformulation, education, physical activity

- Modelled on the EU Platform
- Is the Platform transferable and sustainable at a
regional level? - Platform members make a commitment to action that
is over and above current activity that will make
a contribution towards halting or reversing the
rising trend in obesity - Aim is to have members from public, private and
third sector so that there is a partnership
approach to tackling obesity
