    in females consistently higher than in England
  • Concern that by 2050, 25 children will be obese
    and 40 will be overweight

The East Midlands Declaration - Change4Life
  • Launch of regional movement on 23rd September
    2009
  • Declaration of war on the rising tide of
    obesity
  • Aim was to galvanise support from everyone in the
    region including grass roots organisations,
    employers and third sector for an East Midlands
    Platform
  • Link made with the EU Platform need for
    exchanging policy ideas and best practice
    nationally, regionally and at local levels

EU Platform for Action on Diet, Physical Activity
and Health
  • Set up in 2005
  • Forum for actors at an EU level who can commit
    their membership to engage in concrete actions
    designed to contain or reverse rising trends in
    obesity
  • 33 member organisations that have made over 200
    commitments to date in a variety of areas such as
    food reformulation, education, physical activity

  • Modelled on the EU Platform
  • Is the Platform transferable and sustainable at a
    regional level?
  • Platform members make a commitment to action that
    is over and above current activity that will make
    a contribution towards halting or reversing the
    rising trend in obesity
  • Aim is to have members from public, private and
    third sector so that there is a partnership
    approach to tackling obesity

Nominate commitment champion Attend 1st Platform meeting 9th June
Membership confirmation pack, present commitment, peer group review
Plan press release on successful membership and use of Platform branding Platform Team will help with communication and branding
Implement commitment Progress report at next Platform meeting
