Teamcenter Express Advantages
  • Very Configurable (Be Careful to not Overdo)
  • Individual File Release Control
  • Engineering/Manufacturing Data Repository (all
    design data / specs)
  • Expandable / Upgradable
  • Precise Permission Control for Data Access
  • Multi-Site / Multi-CAD compatible
  • Shop Floor Support

5
Decisions for TcX
  • Network File Management out of Control
  • Better File Control (release / engineering
    process)
  • Automated Workflows
  • Improved Permission Control / File Access
  • Expanding data creation
  • Multi-CAD support
  • Expandable to Manufacturing Support

6
Successful TcX Implementation
  • Management User Buy In
  • Define Scope (Stick to it)
  • Data Clean-up / Organization, before migration
  • Server Set-ups
  • Item Types, Attribute Mapping
  • Access Control
  • Client Set-ups
  • Testing / Training
  • Understand Limitations

Define Scope of Implementation
  • Evaluate existing data condition
  • Standard Parts library usage?
  • Implement Workflows / Notifications
  • Data Import
  • What Comes First / How Long Will it Take?
  • Is all data history required or only current
    revision?
  • Extend to other document types in office
  • Release Process
  • ECO Process
  • View Markup Process
  • Server(s) (will there be Production,
    Training/Test)

TcX Form Definition
  • Search for this on the GTAC website. Explains
process to define XML form rendering definition.
  • Must be done before importing data.
  • Each Item (Master Revision Master) must have
    unique definition.

Data Clean-Up
  • Renaming files (see SEEC docs, Bad Chars,
    Length)
  • Avoid Data Duplication, Only single copy of SE
    files (123.ASM, 123.PSM, 123.PAR Not Allowed)
  • Fix All Broken Links
  • Illegal Characters
  • File Naming Conventions for Future
  • Folder structure goes away
  • Open Save in Latest Version
  • Attribute Adjustments
  • Non SE Data Management

settings.
23
Permissions
  • Identify TcX Users/Groups/Roles
  • Add Required Groups and Roles
  • Set Required Permissions

24
Understanding Limitations
  • Some limitations exist. Knowlegde of
    thesewill minimize complications later.
  • Links to other files can present challenges.
    (Setup company best practices)
  • XpressRoute piping links and how to revise.
  • Assembly links to other parts (Cutouts, Refs,
    Etc.)
  • FOPs
  • FOAs
  • Interpart Copy
  • Parts Library

25
Client Components
  • Disable Antivirus on SE file types and others as
    needed.
  • PAR, PSM, ASM, CFG, PWD, PCF, IXF, QAF, JT
  • Setup Teamcenter Express Client
  • Set SE XML file with options and update
  • SEEC Client
  • Latest Service Pack for Version Used
  • Set Users Cache Location
  • Other CAD Managers

26
Challenges in TcX Implementation
  • Resistance to change
  • Legacy data migration
  • Collaboration over limited bandwidth
  • Meeting Users / Department specific needs

27
Requirements, IT Administrator
  • Ensure that you understand thoroughly
  • Daily work flow in TcX
  • Release Process
  • Backup Restore Procedures
  • Adding and Removing Users
  • Granting Revoking Rights Privileges to Users
  • File / Database Maintenance
  • These tasks are critical to a successful
    implementation.

28
End User Efficiency Requirements
  • TcX Client Familiararity
  • Forms with Required Attributes
  • Templates for new documents
  • Common Parts Library
  • Continual Education on New Features and Company
    Standards

29
Maintenance / Disaster Recovery Plan
  • Backup database regularly
  • Use the built in backup inside SQL or third party
    (AvePoint)
  • Enterprise Manager DB, SE DB, WSS DB Master DB
  • Back up these to another location
  • Use backup utility to backup entire Db.
  • Truncate log files or verify this is happening
    often.
  • Monitor Log File drive on a regular basis.
  • If its getting large, investigate reason
  • Have a plan for the failure of the backup plan
