Are You What You Eat?
  • We are not what we eat but
  • What we eat
  • What we digest
  • What we assimilate
  • What we eliminate

12
Digestive Process
  • Digestion is the process during which gastric
juices and enzymes break down foods into their
    basic components vitamins, minerals, enzymes,
    amino acids, trace organic elements.
  • The body absorbs these nutrients from the
digestive tract into the blood, while the bowel
    eliminates unneeded material.

13
Digestion Depends On
  • Effective chewing (depends on healthy gums and
    teeth)
  • Proper hydrochloric acid and pepsin levels in the
    stomach
  • Quality digestive enzyme production by the
    pancreas

14
Digestion Depends On
  • Healthy liver and gallbladder function
  • Balance of proper intestinal flora
  • Proper peristaltic action in the intestinal tract

15
The Digestive Tract
  • Is like the hole in a doughnut
  • From the mouth to the anus is one long tube
  • This tube is protected from the outside by mucous
    membranes
  • Leaky gut means that the protection has been
breached. Overgrowth of Candida cells allows
their roots to puncture the lining, leading to
    food allergies.

16
Chinese Medicine the Spleen
  • The spleen governs all digestion
  • Excess earth (gas or bloating), use Chinese
    Anti-Gas Formula
  • Deficient earth (Anorexia or inability to gain
    weight), use Chinese Spleen Activator
  • Weak digestion, spleen chi, is generally caused
by a long-term deficiency of protein, use of
low-fat and high-carbohydrate diets, drugs, or
    chronic disease.

17
Human Digestive Tract
18
Mouth
  • Should be ALKALINE
  • Chewing and saliva begin the digestive process
  • - Saliva should not be diluted ideally no
    liquid with meals
  • - To increase saliva, chew Natures Sweet Life gum

19
Stomach
  • Should be ACIDIC
  • Thirty-five million glands to produce
    hydrochloric acid
  • Do you think someone can have too much acid?

20
Stomach
  • Purpose of acid
  • Break-down of proteins
  • Acidification of minerals for assimilation
  • Does it make sense to take TUMS as a source of
    calcium?

21
Stomach
  • Enzyme production is depressed by extremely hot
    cold beverages and adrenal exhaustion
  • Stomach acid production decreases with age.
  • Gum chewing between meals stimulates secretions.

22
Results of Low Levels of Hydrochloric Acid
  • Fermentation gas, burping, belching, bad breath,
    Gastro Esophageal Reflex Disease (GERD)
  • Poor protein digestion - possible reason that
    Americans crave so much protein

23
Results of Low Levels of Hydrochloric Acid
  • Poor mineral absorption osteoporosis, canker
    sores, muscle cramps
  • Stomach acid is your primary defense against
    food-borne illnesses
  • Take digestive enzymes always, including when you
    travel and eat out.

24
Add Hydrochloric Acid (PDA)
  • When taking minerals for optimum absorption
  • Prevent osteoporosis
  • calcium supplements PDA
  • Support the nervous system
  • calcium magnesium PDA
  • Prevent cramping of muscles
  • potassium magnesium PDA
  • Prevent and/or treat canker sores
  • calcium PDA

25
Add Hydrochloric Acid (PDA)
  • When eating protein for optimum break-down into
    amino acids
  • Production of HCl is highest in the morning
  • We eat the most protein in the evening
  • The more protein eaten in a meal, the more PDA
    should be taken.

26
Digestive Distress Ulceration of Lining
Ulcers
  • Acid in stomach buffered by sodium lining

27
Digestive DistressUlcers
  • 500,000 new cases of ulcers in the United States
every year, with as many as 4 million
    recurrences.
  • Bleeding is the most common complication of
ulcers. It may result in anemia, vomiting blood,
or the passage of bright red blood through the
rectum. The mortality rate from ulcer hemorrhage
    is 6-10.
  • Gene Hughes
  • "High acid stomach" is misnomer

28
Ulcers
  • Causes
  • Chronic lack of HCl causing poor digestion
  • Use of aspirin and non-steroid anti-inflammatory
    drugs
  • 85 of ulcers are caused by H. pylori bacteria,
which breaks down the protective lining which
    buffers the acid.

29
H. Pylori Bacteria
  • What Does the Name Mean?
  • "Helico"- Signifying a helical or spiral shape
  • "bacter"- Bacterial
  • "pylori"- Referring to the pylorus region of the
    stomach, where Helicobacter pylori lives

30
H. Pylori Bacteria
  • This bacteria is found in saliva, stomach and
    intestines and is very contagious.
  • Two-thirds of the world is now infected.
  • It eats holes in the stomach intestinal lining.
  • It fools the body into not producing digestive
    enzymes
  • It can cause stomach cancer
  • It may be asymptomatic (without symptoms)

31
Medical Tests
  • Blood antibody test. Sees whether your body has
made antibodies to H. pylori bacteria. (Blood
test will always show positive once you have had
    H. pylori.)
  • Urea breath test. Checks to see if you have H.
    pylori bacteria in your stomach.
  • Stool antigen test. Checks to see if substances
that trigger the immune system to fight an H.
pylori infection are present in your feces.
  • Stomach biopsy. A sample of the lining of your
stomach and small intestine. (Stomach scope may
show negative if you have done the treatment even
    if the bacteria is regrowing.)
  • None of these is 100 accurate.

32
Medical Treatment of H. Pylori
  • Because it is bacterial,
  • antibiotics are prescribed
  • Given for too short a time (usually 10 days) to
    be effective
  • Destroys beneficial bacteria
  • Depresses the immune system
  • Does nothing to repair the damaged lining

33
Natural Treatment of H. Pylori
  • Kill the Bacteria (minimum of 3 months)
  • Repair the Stomach and Intestinal Linings
  • (2-4 weeks)
  • Deal with the Pain (1-5 days)
  • Prevent Future Infection (On-going)

34
Natural Treatment of H. Pylori Kill the Bacteria
  • Gastro Health To kill the bacteria
  • Developed and patented by Natures Sunshine
    Products over a five-year period.
  • Combination of herbs that kill H. pylori without
    destroying the beneficial bacteria.

35
Natural Treatment of H. Pylori -
  • Suggested Dosage
  • Follow bottle direction for one month. In the
Second and third month, drop the bedtime dosage.
  • Three bottles the first month two bottles each
    month thereafter for 3-6 months

36
Natural Treatment of H. Pylori -Repair Stomach
and Intestinal Lining
  • Intestinal Soothe and Build
  • Combination of herbs that repair mucosal lining
  • 2 capsules per meal (2 bottles total)

37
Natural Treatment of H. Pylori -Repair Stomach
and Intestinal Lining
  • Aloe Vera 100 juice A source of natural sodium
    to help repair the lining
  • (Many competitors dilute their aloe)
  • Suggested Amounts
  • Juice - 1 ounce twice daily (2 bottles total) or
  • Freeze-dried capsules
  • 1 capsule twice daily (1
    bottle total)

38
Natural Treatment of H. PyloriDeal with the Pain
  • Stomach-Comfort
  • One bottle needed
  • Aluminum-free antacid
  • Calcium carbonate plus herbs
  • Laboratory tests prove it absorbs more stomach
acid than the three leading brands.
  • Use as needed for stomach pain.
  • If no pain, no need for this product.

39
Prevent Future Infection
  • Start taking PDA and/or Food Enzymes, (inhibits
growth of bacteria), two weeks after healing has
    taken place.
  • Avoid everyone elses saliva!
  • Water bottles
  • Food (double dipping tasting off someone elses
    plate)
  • Kissing
  • Consider having your family, especially your
    spouse, do this program.

40
Prevent Future Infection
  • Spray Silver Shield on your toothbrush every time
you use it or soak it in the Silver between uses
to kill any bacteria growing on it
  • or
  • Brush with XyliBrite Toothpaste which creates an
    unfriendly environment for bacteria.

41
How Long Does This Take?
  • It is important not to stop this program until
    all bacteria have been killed.
  • It takes a MINIMUM of three months to kill this
and can take up to six months.
  • You will know it is dead when you can eat
anything without any intestinal discomfort, gas,
    or bloating.

42
Recap of H. Pylori Program
  • Gastro Health Three bottles the first month two
    bottles each month thereafter
  • Intestinal Soothe and Build Two bottles
  • Aloe Vera Juice 1 ounce twice daily (2 bottles
total) or Freeze-dried capsules 1 capsule twice
    daily (1 bottle total)
  • Stomach-Comfort One bottle for pain, if needed

43
Additional Products Needed
  • PDA and/or Food Enzymes 1 bottle. Take with each
    meal beginning after two weeks.
  • Silver Shield 1 bottle or
  • XyliBrite Toothpaste 1 tube

44
Heartburn, Hiatal Hernia, GERD
  • Six million Americans now use antacids daily.
  • Heartburn
  • Nothing to do with the heart
  • H. Pylori damage to lining
  • Hiatal Hernia
  • Stomach acid going up the esophagus
  • Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease given a
disease name so drugs can be sold for it
  • Caused by poor digestion producing gas

45
Additional Problems
  • Esophageal Cancer is now on the rise
  • 16,000 new cases every year.
  • Acid coming up the esophagus damages the cells.
  • Bad Breath
  • 1. Putrification in stomach or intestines
  • PDA and/or Food Enzymes
  • 2. Putrification in bowel You must eliminate
    daily
  • Probiotics -- Bifidophilus Flora Force
  • Fiber -- Natures Three or Everybodys Fiber
  • Stimulant -- Gentle Move or LBS II

46
Small Intestines
  • Alkaline environment
  • Enzymes are needed for further breakdown of food
when it arrives in the small intestines and to
alkalize the acids. If more than half of your
food is not raw, you need enzymes!
  • Food Enzymes contains enzymes to break down
    protein, carbohydrates, and fat
  • Proactazyme Plus vegetarian formula to break
    down protein, carbohydrates, and fat

47
Organs That Assist in Digestion The Liver
  • Over 100,000 chemical conversions daily
  • Filters majority of chemicals in food, air, and
    water
  • Assists in digestion of fats so they can be used
for energy (with weight problems, look to the
    liver)

48
Organs That Assist in Digestion The Liver
  • To accomplish detoxification on a daily basis,
    the liver needs
  • Vitamins and Minerals Super Supplemental or
    Super Trio
  • Antioxidants to deal with free radicals that are
produced with cleansing (Thai-Go or Super ORAC in
    Super Trio)
  • Fiber to carry off the toxins

49
Supporting the Liver
50
Gallbladder
  • Concentrates and stores bile, which breaks fat
globules into small particles that can be
digested or eliminated from the body
  • FAT, FEMALE, FORTY
  • Symptoms
  • a. Gas
  • b. Nausea (especially after high-fat meal)
  • c. Chalk-colored stools
  • d. Pain under right breast or between shoulder
    blades

51
Gallbladder Cleanse
  • For two days, take 8 ounces of apple juice every
two hours until youve had 1/2 gallon each day.
  • Take 2 or more Red Beet Formula every two hours
    and do not eat.
  • Every 4 hours, take 1 Cascara Sagrada or LBS II
    to stimulate bile flow.
  • At bedtime on the second day, take 2-4 ounces of
virgin olive oil mixed with 2 ounces of fresh
lemon or grapefruit juice. Repeat in 1/2 hour.

52
Gallbladder Cleanse
  • Sleep on your right side.

Other Digestive Helps
  • Hi Lipase Assists in the digestion of fat. If
you are nauseated after eating a high-fat meal,
try Hi Lipase. This product is especially
important for anyone who has had his/her
gallbladder removed as it replaces bile acids and
    prevents diarrhea.
  • Lactase Plus Useful for those who want to eat
    dairy but are lactose intolerant.

54
Congratulations!
  • You are willing to take responsibility for your
    own health!
  • Most people are turning that responsibility over
to their doctors who can give them only 7-15
minutes of their time per visit.
  • If you think health takes too much time, too much
trouble and expense to preserve it, try disease.
  • Please pass this information on to others who
    could benefit from it!
