broadband internet creates insatiable demand for
high bit rate wireless access - System capacity is interference limited - cannot
be increased by increasing transmitted power - The spectrum has become a scarce and very
expensive resource - For Cellular systems reducing cell size is not
viable - Increasing spectral efficiency with multiple
transmit and multiple receive antennas opens a
new dimension, space, offering exceedingly high
bit rates without increasing transmitted power

43End-to-End Network Management Issues (1)
- Network equipments have a proprietary Network
Management Interface. - Integration into common Network Management system
is Costly and Time Consuming - Integration with Partner Platforms also Time
consuming - Each handset variant has to be supported
separately in the Network for WAP and other
services - Handset software bug fixes and upgrades dealt
with individually - In service fixes very costly and damaging to the
brand - May delay handset launch
- Major Operators already working together on the
concept of a Common Handset Platform and a common
approach to FOTA for upgrades

- More new access technologies means more network
management investment - The Operator needs a common approach to defining
all the elements within his network including the
handsets and the platforms of his partners thus
bringing all the elements together to ensure ease
