Hot Syncing
Students with home computers are strongly
encouraged to hot-sync their handheld computers.
This process stores copies of the data, software,
and preferences you create for your handheld. If
your handheld should ever need to be reset or
replaced, you will be able to recover all of the
information on your handheld as of the last
hot-sync. The document provided with your
handheld contains the information you need to
successfully hot-sync. Be aware that your first
successful hot-sync wont necessarily transfer
everything so try it a second time to make sure
you got it. After that, you can always just
hot-sync one time.
53
WIRELESS
Your new TX handhelds have the ability to send
and receive wireless signals. These signals give
you access to websites, your student email, your
H drive, and anything else you can access
through the web. Olathe South now has wireless
capabilities across the building. The current
target date is mid-September. You should be
able to log into a variety of existing free and
not-so-free networks at home or in public places
(often called HotSpots). Some of these
networks charge a fee or limit your usage. Check
with the provider for login information.
54
BLUETOOTH
Youve heard of it, but do you know what it is?
Bluetooth technology allows multiple devices to
exchange information over a short distance (about
30 feet). Everything from documents to
messages can be exchanged. Both devices must
have Bluetooth up and running, and both devices
must seek and find each other. Once the devices
have shaken hands, they can start exchanging
information.
